Lake Jackson Mounds is located in Tallahassee, Florida. Initially, this park was not on my list of places to visit during my trip camping trip at Torreya. Somehow, when I was plotting out the stops that I wanted to make, this one slipped through the cracks. I have no idea how I missed it, but if it were not for my friend Missy I would have missed out on this really great place.
The mounds are ancient Native American ceremonial sites and pictures do not do them justice. When I walked around them there was this very calming quiet. This feeling of contentment that washed over me. I have been to several amazing state parks over the years, but this one had a very different feel to it. It was almost as if I could feel the energy from the Native Americans that once inhabited the land. Even the small creek that ran through it sounded like it was flowing to the beat of a tune.

The trail was a bit destroyed from Hurricane Michael, but it’s beauty was absolutely breathtaking. The trail is very clearly marked and well shaded by all of the trees. Honestly, I could have spent hours there. I was on a bit of a time crunch because I needed to be back at my campsite, and I was so disappointed that I did not have more time to explore the trails.

I will definitely be back to hike again very soon.
Happy Hiking!
