Greensboro, FL

Hello friends! I am going to take a minute and and stray a tiny bit away from my usual posts about parks because I feel like this town needs to be mentioned. It is the most adorable little town that it just deserves to have it’s own post.

In a previous blog I spoke about camping at Torreya State Park. The state park is so secluded that you have to go about 30 minutes out of town, to Greensboro, go get supplies.

I feel like it was fate that allowed me to stumble across this town on my travels. The reason that I say that is because it reminded me a great deal of a town that I lived in as a child called West Chicago, IL. At the time, I had not planned to stop here. I just knew I wanted to stop in the closest town to Torreya to stock up on supplies before I set up my campsite.

I pulled into Greensboro and started looking for a grocery store. From what I could tell, in the short time that I was there, this town has one major road that has all of the stores that one might need to live day to day life. It was just one road so short that I walked from place to place taking photos.

If you are in the area, it is definitely worth a stop to look around. You will not be disappointed. It has a Fire Department/ Library/ Community Center, Supermarket, Post Office, Train Station, Produce Market, Mexican Store, and Taco Truck. Naturally, the Taco Truck was one of the first things that I spotted because I love tacos. The town also has a small museum house, but I unfortunately I did not have time to stop. At the beginning of this main street there were two gas stations and a place to fill your cooler with ice. Right next to the ice house is this little snack stand, with the NICEST people you will ever meet. They had boiled peanuts, pork rinds, and other snacks. There is also a Dollar General, but I felt like it really looked out of place in this quaint little town. On the way out of town, to head back home, I did see the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools on the next street over.

I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with this town. It just reminds me of one of those sweet towns in a great movie. One where everybody knows each other. Where families still live by the old code where you play outside until the street lights come on. I will definitely be stopping in again the next time I am in the area.

Happy Travels!
